Logline is a personal library-tracking app for iOS, developed by Barbarus Consulting ("we," "us," or
"our"). Logline does not have a server, does not require an account, and does not collect, transmit, or
sell your personal information. Everything you create in Logline — your library of books, movies, and
TV shows, along with ratings, dates, and notes — is stored locally on your device, under your control.
Information Logline Does Not Collect
Logline does not use analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services, and does not have a backend
server of any kind. We never see, receive, or have access to your library. Specifically, Logline does
not:
Require you to create an account or sign in to use the app
Collect or transmit your library, ratings, or notes to us
Track your usage or behavior within the app
Show ads or share data with advertisers
Sell or rent any information to third parties
Data Stored on Your Device
Your library — every book, movie, and TV show you've added, along with its status, dates, ratings, and
any notes you write — is stored in the app's local storage on your device. None of this leaves your
device unless you take one of the actions described below.
Optional Features That Involve Your Data
A few features are opt-in and involve data leaving the app. Most only send anything as a direct result
of an action you take (a search, a barcode scan, tapping Sync); the one exception is Automatic iCloud
Backup, which — once you turn it on — keeps writing a backup in the background as your library changes,
until you turn it back off:
Camera (Barcode Scanning) — if you use the barcode scanner to add a book, Logline
accesses your camera only while the scanner is open, with your permission, to read the barcode.
Scanning happens entirely on your device — no image or video is sent anywhere. Only the decoded ISBN
is then used to look up the book, as described below.
Book Search (Google Books & Open Library) — searching for a book by title or
ISBN sends that search text to the Google Books API and the Open Library API (a project of the
Internet Archive) to find matching titles, covers, and details. Only the text you search for is sent
— no other information about you or your device.
Movie & TV Search (TMDB) — searching for a movie or TV show, or viewing
related-title suggestions, sends that search text or title ID to The Movie Database (TMDB) API to
return posters, details, and related titles. Only the search text or title ID is sent.
Plex Sync — if you connect your Plex account from Settings, Logline signs you in
through Plex's own sign-in page (via an in-app browser) and stores the resulting access token on your
device. When you sync — either manually or, if enabled, once daily — Logline uses that token to ask
Plex's servers which movies and TV episodes you've already watched, and updates the watched status of
matching titles already in your Logline library. This communicates directly with Plex's service and
your own Plex server(s) using your own Plex account; Barbarus Consulting is never involved in or able
to see this exchange. Disconnecting Plex from Settings removes the stored token from your device.
Automatic iCloud Backup — if you turn on "Automatic iCloud Backup" in Settings,
Logline writes a backup file containing your library to your own iCloud Drive, in a folder private to
Logline, a few seconds after each change settles. This uses your personal iCloud account and Apple's
iCloud service — Barbarus Consulting never has access to this data. Turning the toggle off stops
future backups; a file already written stays in your iCloud Drive until you delete it yourself.
Export/Import Backup — the "Export Backup" option creates a local backup file and
hands it to iOS's native share sheet, so you can save or send it wherever you choose (Files, AirDrop,
Mail, etc.). "Import Backup" reads a backup file you select back into the app. Barbarus Consulting is
never involved in this transfer.
Third-Party Services
Logline relies on a few third-party services to power search and optional sync, none of which are
operated by Barbarus Consulting:
TMDB (The Movie Database) — for movie and TV search, posters, and related titles.
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. See
TMDB's Privacy Policy.
Plex — for optional watched-status sync, only if you connect your own Plex account.
See Plex's Privacy Policy.
Apple — for Automatic iCloud Backup, only if you turn it on, using your own Apple
ID. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
Data Retention and Deletion
Your library stays on your device for as long as Logline is installed. Deleting the app removes all of
its locally stored data. iCloud Backup files live outside the app itself, in your iCloud Drive, and
persist until you delete them yourself in the Files app, even after uninstalling Logline. Your Plex
access token is removed from your device when you disconnect Plex from Settings, or when you delete the
app.
Children's Privacy
Logline is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, regardless
of age — since Logline does not collect information from any user in the first place.
Security
Because your library is stored locally on your device rather than on a server we operate, its security
depends on your device's own security (passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, disk encryption) and, for the
optional iCloud and Plex features, your Apple ID's and Plex account's own security.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change accordingly. Since
Logline has no accounts and no way to reach you directly, we'd encourage checking back here
periodically if you want to stay current.
